Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller, govenor of New York from 1959 to 1973, arrives in New Guinea with a group of journalists, to clarify the disappearance of his son Michael, who disappeared during a trip in the Asmat region in 1961 and was probably killed there. Mr Rockefeller arrives with his daughter, Michaels twin sister, on Biak. He meets with Governor Platteel in Merauke, where both give a press conference. Shots of the searchings with which the Australian Air Force assists. Talks with Dutch civil servants, press conference, departure by helicopter.

Description (source: www.beeldengeluid.nl) 00.08 SHOTS: Boeing 707 from Pan American World Airways on apron of Biak Airport. KLM Stationmaster, Ab Jansen, introduces two gentlemen to each other. Mr Rockefeller and his daughter Mary leave the airplane in company of the Resident of the Geelvink Bay District and are escorted to the station building. There Costring (Commander of the Netherlands Forces in New Guinea) Rear-Admiral Reeser briefs them outside on the verandah and inside in the restaurant about the situation. 01.25 Rockefeller walks with escort across the apron, takes leave of Mr Kouwenhoven, shakes hands with the pilots, takes leave of Mr Reeser. Father and daughter board a KLM DC3. Costring, Resident and a Commander of the Naval Aviation Service watching the leaving airplane. 02.10 On board a patrol vessel with native art objects cameramen film René Wassing who arrived by Beaver. (He accompanied Michael Rockefeller on his last tour.) He is continuously filmed and photographed while walking across a pier. A warm greeting by Governor Plateel. 03.29 Consult Rockefeller and Platteel preceding a press conference. Camera people, sound men and photographers are shooting continuously. Pressmen are taking notes when Rockefeller and afterwards Platteel are answering questions. Rockefeller leaves the building, speaks with people of the search party, while pack of journalists are shooting pictures and films. Governor leaves building. 05.52 Post-office erected in 1920. Dutchman speaking with postal worker. Catalina flying-boat of the Royal Navy on the river. 06.08 Platteel and officials are studying the search-area on a topographic map. Douglas C-46 Dakota and C-130 Hercules of the Australian Air Force on tarmac of airport, where two helicopters are being readied for a flight. 06.50 Building where the press conference will be held (see 03.29) The whole body of press men are waiting inside. Australian Pilot speaking with Dutchmen. 07.17 Landing-stage with drums of fuel waiting; lots of sympathizers looking on when Catalina flying-boat touches down on the water. Motor-launch moors on the pier, Mr Platteel and Nelson and Mary Rockefeller are getting ashore, taking a seat in a small four doors Fiat, which leaves, leaving behind the sympathizers. 08.25 The Rockefellers say goodbye to René Wassing in the departure lounge, and leave the building together with Mr Platteel. 08.51 Company leaves DC-3, make acquaintance with Mrs. Platteel and goes to the station-building. 09.21 The two Bell helicopters from the Australian Army are landing. Pilot gets in and helicopter flies away. Helicopter lands near Papua settlement, watched by the locals. Lieutenant of the Australian army helps Papua policeman with his life-jacket, after which he enters the helicopter. Pilot buckles up, helicopter takes off and starts searching. 11.17 Shots of Papua's on jetty, where the Beaver is moored. 11.30 Air-view of river, swamps and coast-line. 12.20 END
