The Resident, accompanied by police commander and a doctor are leaving from Hollandia per MS 'Kolff' for a tour in the interior. They visit the little village of Sarmi, where the village head welcomes them. Images of the medical examination and of this little village which is proud to have a small church and a small hospital. The further voyage leads through an area rich in birds. In the meantime Papuans who are passing by receive medical treatment. In a second settlement the inhabitants are being checked by the medical team on symptoms of yaws and are getting an injection with penicillin in accordance with an UNICEF project.

Description (source: www.beeldengeluid.nl): 00.22 Shots: Papuan casts off the ship's hawsers from the jetty, from where sympathizers wave a good-bye to the resident, the sectional commander of the General Police, doctor with a small staff and officials. Passage of the Humboldt Bay with two sailing yachts. Passengers and crew on deck having a chat during the trip. Changing into a sloop. Village head of Sarmi greets visitors. Company climbs hill. 01.27 Small Church of the mainly protestant population. Images of the accommodations, amongst which are a hospital and a dispensary. Doctor treats patients on the veranda. Papuan nurses attend to toddlers of the children's part in play-pens in the open. Papuan nurse lifts suckling from its little bed, hands it over to the mother sitting on bed, who suckles the baby. Lawn with drying laundry. Wrecks of Japanese light tanks. 02.54 Trip on jungle river, meeting a lonely prau. Uniformed head of village Pioniersbivak (Pioneer Bivouac) is waiting, chickens scratching about, model of 'Kolff' on top of an atap roof. Resident in shorts and shirt enters village, while doctor treats inhabitants. Visitors go down steep hill, head of the village gives a salute and company goes back in prau to the 'Kolff'. 04.58 Making headway through narrow passage, rich in fish, where water-birds are flying up. Prau alongside 'Kolff' at anchor. Doctor, leaning over the bulwark, inspects Papuans, who had been treated by him before. Toddler is lifted out of the prau on board by his father, doctor treats the child. Head of the village joins the trip and shows the company his humble village and inhabitants of the Bagusa tribe with 150 souls. From the forest emerge a man and a woman with child. Close-ups of the family, for which the visitors are showing interest. 07.03 Dutch flag in top, mascot on deck during trip on the Pacific Ocean, school of dolphins swimming ahead of the bow. Three saw-fishes carved of wood on the roof of a small building. Medical examination of mothers with children arrived per prau in the field laboratory in accordance with a UNICEF project. 08.35 Woman assistant performs blood tests with simple shake device and microscope. Phials for penicillin are handy, from which inhabitants and many children are getting a shot in the buttocks. Company leaves the lake-dwelling across staging and goes on in motor outrigger. 10.22 End
