Information film about the preparations for big-scale forest exploitation in the jungle of Dutch New Guinea. A small expedition makes a tour of a couple of days. Araucaria seeds - a kind of needle-leaved tree - are collected and disseminated and cultivated on the research station. Tappers get into the wood and gather copal, a kind of resin of the agathis tree - raw material for the paint industry. On the base the copal will be cleaned, weighed and packed to be shipped to Sorong per motor launch.

The group is led by two foresters (both Dutchmen). They are followed by two Papuan forest assistants and twenty Papuan bearers. 01.29 Bearers cutting off hanging branches on the brink of the forest, they clean the ground, they build a provisional lodging from canvas for the leaders and a shelter with atap (palm leaves) for themselves, while the forester unpacks boxes and the cook cooks a meal. 02.01 Forester Ir. Koos Sieck, drinking coffee from a mug, and giving directions when bearers unpack luggage. 02.06 Bearers armed with bush knives, axes and saws leaving the bivouac, while Sieck puts on his shoes, following them shortly with the other forester. 02.19 Having arrived at a group of araucaria trees one of the foresters inspects a tree with field glasses from a hill with panorama of the valley and the surrounding mountains, after which the expedition goes on across a river and through the jungle. Close-up of forester studying an orchid. 02.50 Bearers cutting away the underbrush around a tree, while one of the foresters determines thickness and height (60 meters), after which cutters fell the tree which falls down with din. 03.17 The forester walks on the trunk uncoiling his measuring-tape, and shouts his finding (75 meter) to his colleague, who then cleans two seed-cones. 03.32 In the base camp the seeds are removed from the cones, while the covered seed-beds are being broken up with a hoe, the ground is mixed with humus, and then the seeds are sown. 03.47 Hundreds of little plants planted out in bamboo cylinders are being watered. Close-up of a plant of 30 cm (after a year), which develops to man-size after three years, inspected by forester. Look at the buildings on the base-camp. 04.01 Tin cylinders with agathis plants are being watered, selected and planted, and then sticks are planted around them. Measuring the height of a growing up tree with a stick. 04.37 Group of tappers goes into the forest from the bivouac, wades through a little brook and gets to an agathis tree, from which hangs copal in the meantime curdled already. With bush knives it is chipped off, caught into funnels, which are emptied into back pouches. 05.44 Down tilt along high agathis tree, at the foot of which the groups leader with a gauge marks the cut on the bark, after which the tapper loosens the bark carefully on to the cambium. 06.19 Back packs are put on again and the group of tappers goes back. 06.33 Women and children streaming to the sorting place in the neighbourhood of Sorong, where they spread jute sacks, emptying the pouches on them, cleaning the copal thoroughly, putting the resin back into the pouches, which are weighed. Then follows payment to the tappers.
