After of short period in the Dutch Indies the author went to the Central Mountain Area of New Guinea where the Wissel Lakes were just recently discovered. His task was to map not yet explored areas until the Japanese occupied New Guinea. Together with a number of mountain Papuans he tried to stay out of reach of the Japanese. Because of his adventures he became internationaly known as the 'Jungle Pimpernel'
